
Samuel L. Thomsen, M.D., is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in laser vision correction, cataract surgery, and glaucoma management and surgery. A native of the Beatrice area, Dr. Thomsen graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University and earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Mason Eye Institute at the University of Missouri and pursued advanced fellowship training in glaucoma at the Dean McGee Eye Institute at the University of Oklahoma.
Dr. Thomsen joined Eye Surgical Associates and Sutton Linder & Sutton in August 2020. He is an active member of the American Glaucoma Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Lancaster County Medical Society. He holds professional appointments at Lincoln Surgical Hospital, Bryan Health, CHI Health St. Elizabeth, and Nebraska Surgery Center in Lincoln, as well as Beatrice Community Hospital, Jefferson County Hospital in Fairbury, Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, Nebraska, Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca, KS.
Dr. Thomsen and his wife, Gaby, cherish time with their two sons, Ezra and Oliver. They enjoy Husker athletics, slow days full of good food, coffee, and reading, spending time at the parks in Lincoln, and exploring local trails on foot and by bike. Through their strong faith and involvement in their church, they have enjoyed establishing a community in Lincoln and growing in the principle of “loving thy neighbor.” A running enthusiast, Dr. Thomsen has completed numerous marathons and hopes to qualify for and run the Boston and New York marathons in the future.
